Serving The Interests Of Equestrians In The Twin Oaks Valley of San Marcos
National Quarries was a small operation making tombstones for many years
at the north end of Twin Oaks Valley.  They have greatly expanded their
operation and are now manufacturing aggregate.  The impact of the increased
operation is bigger rock crushers, blasting, trucks for hauling their product,
unacceptable noise levels, and air polluted with the dust created by this
operation.

All of the Twin Oaks Valley community groups have worked hard in bringing
these problems to the attention of the County.  We were successful at DPLU in
getting the truck traffic limited to 32 per week along with some smaller
concessions such as  adjusting the early morning hours of operation.  At that
time, DPLU also suggested that National Quarries look into an alternate
egress/ingress route.  NQ appealed the decision to the Board of Supervisors,
and at the last Board of Supervisors meeting in February 2006, the Board
upheld their decision to limit truck traffic to 32/week, justifying their decision by
wishing to err on the side of public safety.

As a result of the great response from residents in reporting truck traffic that
continued after the Board's decision has resulted in legal action by the County
against NQ.  The next hearing date is March 23, 2007 in Vista
Superior Court, Dept. 28.  At that time the District Attorney's office will present
evidence  of the nuisance and problems experienced by the community as a
result of NQ activities.  A resolution is expected at this hearing
